Following up on yesterday’s love poem I have for you another deceptively simple challenge. Today, I’d like to challenge you to write a poem about a very large thing. It could be a mountain or a blue whale or a skyscraper or a planet or the various contenders for the honor of being the Biggest Ball of Twine. Whatever giant thing you choose, I hope this chance to versify in praise of the huge gets your poetic engines humming. – Maureen Thorson

Hmmm, a very large thing eh? Like a Universe! I have chosen to write in free verse. 🧡👩‍🦰🧡

UNIVERSE

Our Universe is growing and accelerating away from us

At an alarming rate; and the Hubble has shown us this.

Together with the mysterious thing which propulses it.

So strange that scientists call it merely dark energy.

Sent into space in 1990 the space telescope has

revealed beautiful pictures of galaxies and stars.

It has not only shown us far distant galaxies but also

That it is a time machine, showing the time line

Going back into our past, it has
taught us

What happens when stars explode and what black holes are.

The Webb Space Telescope has now been launched.

It is the biggest one that NASA has ever sent into space.

If all goes to plan, it will be able to go back further in time,

To what scientists call 'The Cosmic Dawn' which

Is 250 million years after the Big Bang occurred.

This means we will be able to learn so much more

About our Universe; and receive beautiful pictures too.

The Webb has been successful in unfurling it's

Huge golden mirrors which will allow it to transmit

Things we have never seen before in our huge Universe.
