Todayโ€™s (optional) prompt is based on the aisling, a poetic form that developed in Ireland. An aisling recounts a dream or vision featuring a woman who represents the land or country on/in which the poet lives, and who speaks to the poet about it. Today, Iโ€™d like to challenge you to write a poem that recounts a dream or vision, and in which a woman appears who represents or reflects the area in which you live. Perhaps she will be the Madonna of the Traffic Lights, or the Mysterious Spirit of Bus Stops. Or maybe you will be addressed by the Lost Lady of the Stony Coves. Whatever form your dream-visitor takes, happy writing! – Maureen Thorson.

Day 25 already! How time flies as you get older. I have had an unusually busy weekend so today I am glad of a day of rest, reflection and daily poetry and this is my version of an aisling and though I am not Ukrainian, I stand with Ukraine ๐Ÿ™‚โค๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ’›

WARNING! The subject of this poem uses graphic language to describe potential war crimes and Putin’s efforts to annihilate Ukraine and it’s very brave people. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ˜ช

An Aisling

The Morrighan is very busy
but not in her native land.
For she told me in my dream
how she had gone to Ukraine.

Her beautiful but pale face
was stained with tears and
there was the fire of great
anger in her green eyes.

Civilian women had been
brutally raped before being
shot several times in their
backs, faces smashed.

Russian soldiers fueled by
alcohol had run amok in
Bucha, Borodyanka and Irpin,
raping, killing and burying.

The Morrighan said she
shed so many tears over
the innocent babies and
children she had none left.

I asked what I could do.
She told me to keep on
praying for peace every
night. I cried and awoke.

I could still see the vision
of her in my retinas as she
collected souls from the
dead as is her purpose.

I blinked my tears away
asked Alexa to turn on the
news. The Americans are
pledging more heavier arms.

Putin has said they must
not do this. What will he
do next? His humanitarian
corridors out of Mariupal

Are non existent, his armies
fire on civilians as they try
desperately to escape on
this the 61st day of war.

How many more days of
death and destruction will
Putin cause Ukrainians
as he tries to obliterate them?

They bravely stand and
fight, men and women for
home, for family, for freedom
for us and our democracy.

I send money for their
humanitarian aid and every
night I pray for peace on
both sides. It is all I can do.
