Just saying 😎(4) 4th July

A commentary on my life and what is going on in the world, written with passion and gratitude.

To all my American friends, Happy 4th of July!

I was just going to leave it there but as I understand it, this is the day to celebrate freedom and independence and the American way of life. Great if you are a man but 6 Supreme Court Judges have taken away a woman’s right of choice to abortion.

I understand the anti-abortion protesters’ views but this ruling means that women will be forced to carry to term and be delivered of their rapist’s baby, a baby conceived by incest etc. Who will care for these children? Who will adopt them? Or will they be brought up in children’s homes?

Will, the government provide free counselling for these women, whose lives have been blighted by the removal of their right to choice?

I, personally am appalled that a first nation country, in the 21st century has chosen to overturn the Roe versus Wade decision which was taken all those years ago. The decision of whether to have an abortion should rest between the woman and her doctor.

The lives of women are being put at risk, and the mortality rate of mothers will go up. I shudder when I remember the awful stories of back-street abortions of the 1950s, and ’60s in this country. Now I believe that some states which have banned abortion are going to try to stop women from going to another state where it hasn’t been banned.

What next? Sadly, I think these judges are no better than the Taliban in Afghanistan, who also try to control women with repressive laws.

So I hope the women and men of America will rise and keep fighting until the right to choose an abortion is restored.

Happy 4th of July has a very hollow ring this year. 🙏💙🙏
