What Haiku Means To Me
Hello fellow TDHers. My name is Carolyn Crossley aka 🦊VixenOfVerse and I started with The Daily Haiku on the 1st April 2020. All I knew about haiku was it was about nature and written in 17 syllables in 3 lines 5/7/5 format. This was the same date I started National Poetry Writing Month (NaPoWriMo) and began my poetry blog on WordPress.
I have learned so much about a haiku needing a kigo or season word, how it describes a moment in time and how it’s final line is a juxtaposition or aha! moment. I feel I know more now than I did then but I still have a long way to go. 😆 lol.
Poetry but especially haiku kept me sane during the pandemic years. Haiku focused my thoughts, used my writing/creative muscle on a daily basis and inevitably has made me a better poet.
The Daily Haiku is a friendly, inclusive haven on Facebook where thanks to Amanda White’s ethos, we are allowed to evolve our haiku in different ways. It has been wonderful to “meet” on FB a wide variety of people who are all interested in haiku. TDH has been and continues to be a safe place to share grief and pain and know you will be supported. I feel I have many friends now on TDH and this continues to enrich my haiku writing experience.
Meanwhile, my poetry blog with additions of Gratitude, Positivity and Good Vibes posts has gained me 1,079 followers
¡Viva La TDH! ❤️✍️🦊📚🫖☺️
