#NaPoWriMo #April #2023
Last, but not least, here’s our daily prompt (optional, as always). Start by reading James Tate’s poem “The List of Famous Hats.” Now, write a poem that plays with the idea of a list. Tate’s poem is a list that isn’t – he never gets beyond the first entry. You could try to write a such a non-list, but a couple of other ideas would be to create a list of ingredients, or a list of entries in an index. A self-portrait (or a portrait of someone close to you) in the form of a such a list could be very funny. Another way into this prompt might be a list of instructions. Happy Writing!
❤️I have written list poems before so this was a pleasure to write❤️
A PINCH OF SALT
A pinch of salt to represent the earth.
A small bowl of water,
Light some incense for the element of air.
A lit candle represents fire.
A small empty cauldron full of ether,
(you have to imagine it in the cauldron as ether is unseen.)
Take your Athame* and cast your sacred circle.
This is a place outside time and space.
Conjure it well and once cast only you should be in it
(the only exception is your cat or familiar)
Call upon the guardians of the North offering the salt
Then of the East, offering the incense
Now the South, offering the lit candle
Finally the guardians of the West with an offering of water.
Feel comfortable in your sacred space, take a few moments.
Now summon the Goddess and
if you want to work with male power, summon the God.
They are summoned from the ether.
They are there to bear witness to your spell work
Now you can make magick!

*Athame - witch's ceremonial knife, double-edged and not used for cutting anything. It is a symbol of power.
