The Real Woman Behind The Vixen Of Verse...

Back in 1985 I fled my marital home with my 2  sons following 2 years of domestic violence.

In 1998 my younger son, Evan Kenneth Paul Crossley died from a heroin overdose.

I am a British Army Veteran of the Northern Ireland Conflict.

I have lived and worked in Spain and speak the language fairly well. I still translate business letters for a friend. Sometimes I even write poetry in Spanish, see Poesía Española for details.

On 09/04/2020 I will be 65. I was born in 1955 so I am one of the Waspi Women who have been robbed of their pensions, what will be 6 years when I get mine at 66.

I am riddled with osteoarthritis and have been in a lot of pain for the last 19 years. I have had 2 new knee replacements which has helped tremendously. Now, I pace myself-most of the time and have found different ways of controlling the pain.

Yesterday on 01/04/2020 I began my NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) or GloPoWriMo (Global Poetry Writing Month) which is the month of April dedicated to writing a poem every day in April with NaPo/GloMo prompts or not!

Please read my first poem called: Like a Virus. More will follow throughout April.

This is a site I was asked to join late in April. It is now mid July and I continue to write a haiku a day, sometimes more than one. It concentrates the mind and helps with focus.

To keep my mind occupied during the 2020 Coronavirus Pandemic, I have kept writing poetry and have tentatively returned to spoken word gigs which are now on the Zoom Platform.

SPEAK-EASY and WRITE & RELEASE have been very friendly, encouraging places, for me to regain my confidence.

I have been running the Oldham Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club on Zoom. It is nice to be in touch with some of the more tech-savvy amongst us.

I continue to attend workshops at both Oldham Writing Café and Oldham Writing Group. I have also contributed a blog post to OWG’s website and contribute ad hoc blog posts to OWC’s FaceBook Page.

During the Covid-19 Pandemic I have stayed in for 12 weeks. Then I have been to Asda shopping once and been out for a walk once. I don’t want to go out unless I have to.  I feel people are not taking this virus seriously enough. Tomorrow, 4th July we are on the next stage of coming out of lockdown with pubs, restaurants and cafes opening. I will be staying home!

At the beginning of June I added “Daily Affirmations” to my blog thanks to a lovely lady called Garima whose affirmations I still use with her permission. Her “Be Inspired” WordPress site has inspired me on 1st July to add my ” Gratitude Journal” where I recount 3 things I am grateful for on a daily basis . My late Mother called it counting your blessings! July 2020 has been a busy month because I have added #tankapoetry to my blog and I am now on my 14th Tanka.

I have also added poesía española, where I intend to add my Spanish poems.

So far, I have featured 3 guest poets and will feature more in August.

I hope you enjoy all the features of my blog, please go to the contact page and fill in your email address and let me know what you like and what you don’t. Thank you.
