So what about you? What are you seeking when reading or writing haiku? Do you have any favourite haiku that illustrate well what haiku is for you?

For me I like the haiku of Basho.  This one in particular.

He drinks morning tea
the monk is at peace with all
Chrysanthemums bloom

This one from Issa seems very relevant just now.

In a world 
of grief and pain,
flowers bloom 
even then

I like to try to write Zen-like haiku, here is one of mine.


When sleep eludes me
I light a candle and
pray for world peace...
