Free Verse ✍️📚(24) Euphemisms

#freeverse

When friends die
our circle shrinks.
When family die
we become orphans.
Suddenly aware of
our own mortality.

We shed tears
we feel deep grief.
Our world grows
a little colder.
We think will we
be next and shiver.

Our time will come
but we are afraid
to acknowledge
this, so we don't
talk of death we
use euphemisms.

We call it passing
on, departing this
mortal coil and
others, so we don't
jinx anything by just
saying, he died.

One day a friend is
here and another
day he has gone.
We shed our tears,
fill our empty hearts
with happy memories.
