Letters sent and received
from abroad, between wives
and their soldier husbands.
Full of news of home and
what their children were
doing from their wives.
Soldiers abroad with time
on their hands made poets
of some of the husbands.
They poured their feelings,
black ink on air-mail 'blueys'*
available free to send for both.
Now they face-time each other
or send emails via computers.
I wonder if the poetry survived?
*blueys were air-mail forms that folded out to a page. Then you folded them up and stuck the edges down on three sides and sent them free of postage to British Forces Post Office (BFPO) numbers and your husband/boyfriend could reply in the same way.*
