I do not have a scientific mind but wanted to know what the Schrodinger’s cat thought experiment was about. I read several definitions and this is what I believe it is.
Professor Erwin Schrodinger, an eminent scientist in the field of Quantum Physics wanted to disprove the Copenhagen theory of split worlds and so invented the thought only, Schrodinger’s cat experiment.
The idea was to put a cat in a lead-lined box with a small amount of radio active material and some noxious gas. The lid would be closed. Then the cat would be both dead and alive in what are called superpositions.

Two states at once is

If the radioactive material degraded by one degree, this would release the noxious gas and kill the cat.
An experimenter would only discover what state the cat was in by opening the box and witnessing or measuring if the cat was dead or alive.
As what happens at the microscopic level so far is reflected in the larger, normal macroscopic world. Schrodinger claims that common sense says you can’t be both dead and alive you have to be one or the other.
Back to the box, I for one being an ardent cat lover, what to open the box and see if the cat is alive!
A final thought – if the cat had been killed by degraded radioactive material and noxious gas, by opening the box wouldn’t the experimenter have also been killed or made very ill?
