What a vibrant and inspiring afternoon I spent at this event on Saturday, 17th February from 2 pm to 4.45 pm.

I enjoyed the networking exercise where we went around the room meeting new people. I also caught up with two poets/writers I already knew which was nice.

The poetry performances were as diverse as the poets themselves. Some of the poets performed for the first time. We also had children performers too. It was good to see the next generation of poets coming up. Most of the poetry was about our town of Oldham.

The prize-giving followed. This was for the winners in various categories in the Writing About Oldham poetry competition of last year. Imagine my delight when the 1st prize in the children's section was won by Musa Ansar whom I had been chatting with in the networking. He was there with his proud mum, Farzana Kouser and I would have liked more time to talk to them both.

Commonword who ran the event ensured everything went smoothly. Peter Kali from Commonword spoke about setting up a monthly meeting for reading our poetry aloud. He also talked about poetry videos which sounds like an interesting project. All in all a great afternoon out.
