Free Verse ✍️📚(32) – Thoughts on Oldham

#freeverse #commonword

Tangled in dreadlocks, African-born.
She needs to know when Oldham will be gradely again.
The Latics rose then they fell.
McDonald's for a fast food treat

Earthbound children, take bitter Chinese medicine.
Passive/aggressive - out into the abyss.
Look through my nostrils like an airport scanner.
Divide and rule, re-wire the authentic self.

Patchwork pavements replace the cobbles.
Where clogs clattered noisily on their way to the mill.
When they ask you what you are
Tell them, "I am a Poet!"

*My thanks to the poets who took part in The Oldham Festival of Writing, whose fragments and phrases make up this poem. I made notes when a phrase or line came up that I particularly liked and rearranged to create this poem*
