BECAUSE ( Anaphora) - An American Sonnet No. 1

Because I was contrary from birth.
Because I had bright red hair and blue eyes.
Because 33%of my DNA is Irish - the Celtic.
Because I felt like the outsider looking in.
Because I loved with 100% passion.
Because I grew up with my nose in many books.
Because I became a mother, very young.
Because I was a Greenfinch* in Northern Ireland.
Because I am a survivor of domestic violence.
Because my younger son died of a drug overdose.
Because my older son estranged himself from me.
Because I love rescuing stray cats and keeping them.

Because I have found my purpose in life.
Because I am at peace with myself.

*Greenfinch - A female soldier, non-combatant, on the front line in Northern Ireland's civil war, euphemistically referred to as "The Troubles."
