We arranged to go to the Waggon Inn in Milnrow,
Where we wagged off from our Spanish class,
There we had a bit of a do, and teacher came too.
The wine was flowing, and the laughter infectious!
When people get together, the story telling starts.
Stuart, the front man of Stax of Soul who introduces,
His songs in an American drawl instead of his Oldham accent.
We women out-numbered the men by one,
Peter said that five years ago, there were more men.
Poor Chris was laid up at home unable to come.
I loved my Rancho Canario recommended by Jorge,
We all shared patatas bravas, papas canarios, and pan and acietunas.
Luckily Mike counted the money to pay the bill.
Jorge took the diehards on the tram to Rochdale
I think I will be one of them next time, but I'm such a light weight.
No words of the week were recollected,
No A-level questions and answers debated
We hardly spoke Spanish at all, but next
week
Jorge will have our noses to the Spanish grindstone,
To make up for missing this week's Wednesday class.
You can take the teacher out of the classroom
But you can't take the classroom out of the teacher
Which is what makes for such a brilliant U3A Spanish class

*This was my first 'do' with U3A Spanish Improvers and I am already looking forward to the next. Thanks to Peter for organising it and to George who really is Mr Spanish Improver and makes the class the resounding success it is.*
