Kindness is simple,
a couple of coins
dropped in a young
man's outstretched
cup, without judgement,
what he spends it on
is his business, he tells
me he is trying to get
his life back on track.
I empathise with that,
life is always going
off track, in one way
or another, when your
younger son dies of a
heroin overdose, despite
all you tried to do to
stop him.
When your elder son
leaves his wife, his
grown up children and
you, his mother, and
goes to start a new life
with a new partner who
has a young child, and
you don't know if it is
his or not. That's life
going off track, then
there was my sister who
ran away to be with my
ex-husband, that was
all kinds of wrong, he
was a violent alcoholic
which is why I left him.
Best move I made.
Her liaison was doomed
to failure, a dead end track,
that she pretended she
never took. How some
people can pull the wool
over their own eyes amazes
me. No, once life sends me
off track, I wait for the
signals to change and get
back on track. It may be
the track least taken, but
it is a track I can follow,
until life changes it again,
the death of my mother
made the signals change,
an orphan at sixty years old,
but guess what?
Yes, I am back on track.
I am strong because life
gave me no other choice.
I am grateful for lessons
learned. I stand tall with
my head held high, and I
say if I can make it, so can
you. So, show kindness to
others, as others have been
kind to you. We are all
human beings of the same
blood and bone, be kind,
pay it forward, you never know
when the Fat Controller might
change your track again, and
you too may seek the kindness
of strangers.
