So it hits you like a speeding train
and poleaxes you in your tracks.
One day, you are fine and performing
poetry, the next you can't get out of bed.
No matter how many hours of sleep
you might have had, this Chronic Fatigue creeps up on you unawares.
Pain accompanies it, a double whammy!
Your body gives up on you and craves
more and more sleep, which will not
refresh you, but you must listen to your
body, the pain it invokes says it all.
The pain starts at my head and travels
down my neck and spine, I need meds
to bring it under control, my left wrist
which I broke, and my fingers ache.
My feet ache, and I have only walked
about the house from bedroom to the
bathroom to the kitchen to feed the cats
finally to the living room, and rest.
My cats are such a comfort to me and
need feeding twice a day. Miss Molly
comes and lies next to me in bed.
Her purring is a lovely soothing noise.
Sooty is a wanderer, once he belonged,
as much as cats do, to the neighbours.
Now his chip changed, he is officially
a 'Crossley' cat and has settled in here.
The cats lift my depression which both
chronic pain and fatigue bring. I weave
my words into the warp and weft of the
fabric of my life - I know I will recover.
