This book was recommended to me by my poet and writer friend, Geli Berg. What a good recommendation it was, too!
In this the 30th Edition, there are various prefaces by both the author and guests, but it was the book itself that drew me into the writing process that Natalie expounds. Part memoir, part instruction manual, the story enticed me into the writing world.
There are lists to make, a spiral notebook to choose. A pen that will allow you to write without lifting it from the page. It is even more important for me with my arthritic fingers.
There is a relentless energy that races through the book, an eye-watering throwing yourself off a cliff attitude to writing.
Then Natalie introduces her Zen practice and we can catch our breath and just breathe. We find ourselves zaizen in the zendo and let the ideas just percolate.
Every would-be poet and writer should read this book at least once beginning to end and then use it as a textbook to be dipped into as required.
Highly recommended and would make a lovely gift for the writer in your life.
