#books #release #review

This informative book includes a 'how to' guide to writing haiku, Tanka, Renga, Haiga, Senryu, and Haibun. Bruce Ross, the author, has taught haiku and traditional Japenese poetry at a number of universities and has edited or written a number of books on haiku. He is the former head of The Haiku Society of America.

The author's teaching methods are straightforward and give you lots of prompts and examples of haiku. There is a section on each form, so it can and should be read completely and then dipped into as you need it - like a text book.

I came to Bruce Ross' book by a rather rude comment left underneath one of my haiku, which suggested I read the book before I write another one! Well, rude man, I have done that now and gained yet more knowledge on my writing journey.

The famous haijin, Basho said that if you wrote 5 good haiku in a lifetime, you could consider yourself, a haikuist but when you reached 10, you could call yourself a hajjin (master) I am now on my way to being a haikuist, but still consider myself a beginner. Bruce Ross' book has been a help mate, a mentor, and an inspiration. His book comes highly recommended!
