A stand of silver birches glisten
bone white bark with darker
smudges contain a riot of foliage,
a cacophony of yellow, green,
brown and reds, vermillion,
scarlet, pillar box through to
orange and ground cover that
mirrors the canopy above, then
the blue of the sky with a touch
of turquoise.
This painting spoke to me of love
and loss and the eternal grieving
a mother feels when she loses
her beloved son. It is so beautiful
and I have chosen this fitting
memorial for the twenty-second anniversary of Evan's death, who will always be forever twenty-two to me.
