*The Wow! signal was a strong radio signal that was detected by the Big Ear radio telescope at Ohio State University on August 15, 1977. However, scientists now think it was caused by a flare from a hypermagnetised, hyperdense star called a magnetar when it struck a cold interstellar cloud of hydrogen gas. The flare caused the cloud to incandesce in the radio wavelength, and this fast and furious outburst was heard by Big Ear.*
