Ellis Peters character, Brother Cadfael, is masterfully created. She now embroils her story in the civil war that raged through England in the eleven hundreds between two claimants to the thrown, Maud and Stephen.
The story involves knights, squires, and the women they love, and it provides lots of twists and turns in the plot.
As the second of Cadfael's Chronicles, I enjoyed it more than the first story. I am looking forward to the third one.
