Bridget Jones was very much a 1990 phenomenon, and this new film still has that vibe.
That said, Bridget Jones fans will love it, as it skims over real life. How did Bridget live for 4 years without working? Darcy must have left her a rich widow!
There is lots of humour and a scene in a swimming pool where Leo Woodall gives a nod to Colin Firth's Mr Darcy's dip in the pond in Pride and Prejudice.
Hugh Grant is not aging well, at 64 he looks 10 years older, and his antics also look dated. Emma Thompson plays a lovely cameo role as Bridget's doctor.
Rene Zellweger as Bridget still has slit eyes with all that out of date eye make-up and supposedly in her forties/fifties still wearing the same fashion she wore in the first film!
The children are adorable and although the plot is very obvious, their is pathos as well as humour. The music is great. It is on the whole, an enjoyable, nostalgic, light on real life, film worth watching.
