So here I am at the start of another Crime Fiction series. This time in the Campsie Fells in Scotland. In this first book, we are introduced to the psychologically damaged DCI Duncan Bone.
Having been blown up and nearly dying at the hand of the 'Peek-a-boo' killer, DCI Bone is called off sick leave when another PC ends up murdered by a 'copycat killer'.
I wasn't sure at first about the banter within the murder unit, which borders on the insulting and even DCI Bone's superior joins in with, but as the story unfolded I could see how it fitted in and gave the story grit and determination.
The murders are grisly and DCI Bone is still struggling with PTSD, which gives the story a feeling of desperation.
There is dark humour in the story whch goes with the territory. This was a pulsating, no-holds-barred story that never lost its momentum. I m already reading Book 2!
☆☆☆☆ recommended reading.
