Finally, today’s (optional) prompt is inspired by musical notation, and particularly those little italicized –and often Italian – instructions you’ll find over the staves in sheet music, like con allegro or andante. First, pick a notation from the first column below. Then, pick a musical genre from the second column. Finally, pick at least one word from the third column. Now write a poem that takes inspiration from your musical genre and notation, and uses the word or words you picked from the third column.

snow, chain, shadow.

Folk Song
Like 100 cans falling out of a Volvo,
That cacophony of heavy noise hits me.
The outside world may be full of snow,
But inside, ego's voice clamours to be.
Constant noise is like a heavy chain,
That binds me to its inane chatter.
The negativity falls like stormy rain
Beating against the window - a clatter
Of sound that makes my head ache.
Tears escape red rimmed eyes.
I need to sleep, dream, and not wake,
Until the world is rid of its sighs.
Sighs that lament the world's woes,
A shadow of war and destruction.
Grief and extreme pain just grows,
Like a never-ending evil construction.
I pull up my metaphorical drawbridge,
Quieten my nagging ego's voice.
Seek the peace within, edit, and abridge,
As a human, I always have the choice.
Convert the negative to the positive.
Sing out affirmations to my reflection
In the mirror, let my mind be causative,
To peace, and quiet, avoiding abjection.
