I am from where cotton was king.
Where strong, stoical women lived,
And brought up their children to have
Good manners and respect for others.
I am from a busy northern town,
Full of military service and
Veterans, where people stood up
To be counted in service to
Their monarch and to their country.
Honest folk who told stories and
Wrote poetry of the beautiful
Countryside that surrounds the town.
A place that welcomed immigrants,
Who came to work and to prosper.
Friendly people who greet each other.
Full of flowers, trees, and green parks.
We had the blitz spirit ingrained
In the fabric of our being.
We are woven with the warp and
the weft of strength of character.
As I approach my three score years and
Ten, I am grateful for my blessings.
I have a family of friends,
and the companionship of cats!
