PROMPT
Today we’d like to challenge you to write your own poem that describes a detail in a painting, and that begins, like Auden’s poem, with a grand, declarative statement.
Happy Writing!

Poetry And Art -A Villanelle
Poetry changes nothing, it is blind!
It reports, records, it rages and reels,
Art suggests opportunities to the mind.
The woman reads a letter, what kind
Is it, love, or loss what does it reveal?
Poetry changes nothing, it is blind.
Is it from a husband, or lover who pined?
Or a herbal potion an ailment to heal?
Art suggests opportunities to the mind.
Is it just an invitation for her to be dined,
By fancy friends eating breast of veal?
Poetry changes nothing, it is blind.
It records emotions, in love enshrined,
But it changes nothing will only reveal.
Art suggests opportunities to the mind.
This simple painting is a life outlined,
With changes to reveal or conceal.
Poetry changes nothing, it is blind.
Art suggests opportunities to the mind.
