I loved the Portugese setting and the plot of the story. The characters were well drawn. I fell in love with Aphrodite, the cat!
Alice was a sympathetic character, all though her inner dialogue became a bit tedious after a while.
That said, it is the first book in the Romantic Fiction genre I have read for a while. I enjoyed it very much.
