WHERE DID THE SPARROWS GO? 

The branches of our trees contain no sparrows.
Did they migrate and never come back?
I have childhood memories of those little birds.
Butterflies still flutter during the summer months,
But where are the little brown sparrows?
I watch the cat stretch, slinking through the grass,
Very still, so his bell will not warn the birds
Of his prescence, are the cats to blame?
But then the cat emerges without any prey.
I sit fidgeting at the window, my mind ever questing.
With a crash, the cat comes through the cat flap,
Content with his evening meal from a tin!
