Although I am not a fan of our PM, Sir Keir Starmer, I think he has acted correctly in not supporting the US/Israel war against Iran.
According to international law, it would appear to be illegal. Trump does not seem to have a cohesive plan. Starmer tells us that we have learned from the Iraq war and Tony Blair's 'weapons of mass destruction', and so we should have!
Why is it wrong for Starmer to put Britain first when that is exactly what Trump's 'America First' regime is all about?
It is right after the attack on our RAF base in Akritiri, Cyprus, that we agree to allow the US to use our bases to destroy the stock piles and launch sites of the Iranian ballistic missiles and drones. This is defensive not offensive.
However, the line in the coming weeks may well get blurred. Meanwhile, thousands of British citizens and tourists are stuck in the Arab countries that Iran are bombing. They are bombing hotels, airports and oil and gas installations.
With the death of the Ayatollah and other leading clerics, Trump has urged the Iranians to rise up and overthrow the 'sick and sinister regime' that currently rules. How are they to rise up without weapons against the current regime?
Although Trump guesses it will last 4 or 5 weeks, and it is a guess because war tends to have a mind of its own. I am reminded of Putin's boast of the few weeks it would take to conquer the Ukranians, four years later, that war continues.
Call me a cynic, is it just a coincidence that this war has overtaken the Epstein debacle in which Trump plays such a prominent role?
Just saying...
