The red of sunrise and sunset
scarlet, ruby and raspberry red,
hues colour life - red of shame,
fiery passion and danger!
Orange hues in the evening sky.
Orange squash, fluorescent orange
jackets, the orange of the setting
sun, the brightness of flames.
Yellow hues in wellington boots
custard, those Easter chicks - so cute.
Yellow for cowardice, feeling sick
and jaundiced skin turning yellow.
Green grass, hills, leaves and stalks
that herald the return of spring.
Green vegetables, going green with
envy - emeralds that come from rocks.
So many blue hues of sky and sea,
Navy blue uniforms, turquoise stones
from mines. Feeling blue and singing
the blues; and blue whales and birds.
Indigo, the colour of ink, the night sky
dotted with bright stars. Australian
sapphires, juicy blueberries, irises and
violets, and a blue jeans' darker hue!
Purple so rich, so royal, deep velvet
robes, purple patches and purple prose.
To go purple with rage, lilacs, and lavender, so fragrant pale purple.
