✈️💙Free Verse 91 – Declutter the World💙✈️ 💙✈️

#freeverse #poetry

In the clutter and loud noise of life,
I lost myself in possessing the
trappings of modern living — all the
things that I thought that I needed
that have turned into clutter and junk.

Declutter, my friend told me, and I did.
Yet, here I am, surrounded by all the
things I thought were necessary for
my comfort and for my peace of mind.
So I have resolved to keep decluttering.

Books that I can get rid of – some of
course I can't – can be sold on an app.
For what is a home without books?
It is just a building without a soul.
Books anchor my memories in time.

Clothes are constantly being recycled
in large black bin bags for charity.
If I buy a new item of clothing, I get
rid of at least one, it feels right to do so.
It keeps charity shops in business.

When emptying my bins, I look for items
to get rid of. Things that are no longer
needed; if I throw one a week away,
in a year, I will have got rid of fifty-two
items and yet my home is still full.

Full of things I have surrounded myself
with so that my home is my sanctuary.
A safe place I can and do retreat to
when the noisy world closes in on me.
I feel very frightened for the future.

Not just the future for my child and my
grandchildren but for mankind itself.
As wars rage on, the rich get richer
and the poor get poorer, violence,
greed, and the megalomaniacs rule!

If we could only declutter, Trump, Putin,
Xi, Kim Jong Un and their ilk, consign
them to the rubbish bin of history.
Spread wealth among everyone so we
all have enough to live comfortably.

Rid ourselves of consumerism and just
buy what we need and recycle, recycle,
recycle. Return to a simpler life, to
when people are more important than
things and let's save our beautiful home.

Planet earth needs tender loving care.
We need to live in harmony with all
living creatures. We need to find the
solutions for our world to not only
survive but thrive together in unity.

  1. Well said and so true, I feel sad at the world we are leaving for future generations – where has all the kindness and compassion gone?
