  • 🎙🫧Event/Review – Khushi Festival 2026🎙🫧

    #event #announcement #review

On 1st August this year there was an even bigger Khushi festival. The sun shone on the Sunshine Festival and attracted lots of people especially families. Held in Oldham Library and the new J.R. Clynes building where there are two brilliant well equipped studios. There was also a large marquee from where a lot of DJ music came from. I caught DJ Ruby's afternoon set.

There was so much to take part in or just watch all day, like face-painting, henna, bubbleoligist, the wonderful Dhol Drumming, Naarch by Anita (Dance), Pink Chai and Vegan Spice outside.  In the library foyer, there was badge making, makers market, colouring and craft activities, sari demo and block printing. Kite making and the outstanding kite exhibition upstairs in the gallery. The friendly little Brew Box which makes fantastic coffee.

There was an Actual Reality Arcade with games like Whack! Invaders, Tetris, Marble Run and Beat the Buzzer.

There were so many wonderful performances throughout the day, I was sorry to have missed the whirling dervish performance which my friend told me was fantastic! I did get to see inside the Oldham Theatre Workshop's 2 studios in the J.R. Clynes building across from the library.

The musical performance in Studio 1, Love and Sacrifice by Satnam Golsham was fantastic. She has a beautiful voice and was accompanied by talented musicians on drums, guitar, cello and flute. ( It would have been nice if they could have been named and credited in the programme!)

I attended and performed in the Mushaira: A Poetry Symposium hosted by the lovely and talented poet, Yasmin Toor. She made everyone welcome and calmed any performance nerves.

Thanks must be given to all the organisors and those charming, hardworking volunteers who were from the Chai Ladies Project, Oldham Coliseum Theatre and Oldham Theatre Workshop, and Oldham Library staff. As a deaf/disabled member of the public I found all the staff and volunteers,  polite, friendly and helpful. A big thank you to you all.

The Khushi Festival is an annual event, which is well worth attending. If you haven't been before, consider attending next year, you will have a great time!

  • 🌿🌻Triolet for Thursday 35 – Fighting Pain🌻🌿

    #triolet #poetry #French

    Fighting pain moment by moment,
    Breathing and distraction techniques.
Medication side effects not heaven sent.
    Fighting pain moment by moment,
Body bombarded, so stiff and bent.
Feeling like one of nature's freaks,
    Fighting pain moment by moment,
    Breathing and distraction techniques.

    Rest, move, rest, keep repeating.
Reading and writing block it out
For a while, but it's so defeating.
    Rest, move, rest, keep repeating.
What little energy I have is depleting,
It feels like an agonising wrestling bout.
Rest, move, rest, - keep repeating.
Reading and writing block it out.

    Taking a break/weeding

    No. 1
    taking a break
    frequently helps control pain
    that constant in life

    No. 2
    weeding out the friends
    whose toxicity poisons
    the air that I breathe

    No. 3
    taking a break from
    negativity, we smile
    as the rain comes down

    No. 4
    weeding out the weeds
    which are wildflowers, time to
    re-wild a meadow

Trying new things is scary, but do it!
It gets you out of your comfort zone.
You have plenty of time to just sit,
Trying new things is scary, but do it!
Activates you and increases your with,
Gets you out so you're not alone,
Trying new things is scary, but do it!
It gets you out of your comfort zone.
