some of us can see
the magic in the mundane,
small things that lift life.

small things that lift life,
first snowdrops pushing through the
snow, thick on the ground.

snow, thick on the ground
drifting with the biting wind,
the Beast from the East.

the Beast from the East
makes hunkering down indoors,
a good place to be.

a good place to be
where it is warm and cosy,
snuggled up with cats.

snuggled up with cats,
the witches' familiars
their purring calms me.

their purring calms me,
can bring down high blood pressure,
I feel safe and sound.

I feel safe and sound,
writing, reading, and TV
occupy my hours.

occupy my hours
watching nature from windows,
small things that lift life.
