I long for the stillness
of peace

top of the stair
the ghosts gather
around me

older now
my pace slow and steady
snail like

top of the stair
the cats pause, looking for
marauders

older now
some wisdom acquired 
questions remain

No. 6
top of the stair
creaks with the weight
of unseen footsteps

No. 7
older now
the solace of silence
is balm to the soul

pause, hold the rail tightly
fear of falling
