PROMPT
Here’s today’s (optional) prompt. In her poem, “Living with a Painting,” Denise Levertov describes just that. And well, that’s a pretty universal experience, isn’t it? It’s the rare human structure – be it a bedroom, kitchen, dentist’s office, or classroom – that doesn’t have art on its walls, even if it’s only the photos on a calendar. Today, we’d like to challenge you to write your own poem about living with a piece of art.

Happy Writing!
A Memorial to my son Evan (A Villanelle)

A memorial to my son Evan.
Silver birches for 27 years of grief,
To remember you daily is my plan.

The colours swirl, a living question,
Bringing me a temporary relief.
A memorial to my son Evan.

The artist makes my grief lessen
Momentarily, in her art and belief.
To remember you daily is my plan.

A mother's love, an artist's impression
in each flower, tree, and leaf.
A memorial to my son Evan.

Wrapped in my grieving depression,
The growing cycle, time is the thief.
To remember you daily is my plan.

I see your ghost in the shades, my Evan,
A tribute to my tears, my enduring grief.
A memorial to my son Evan,
To remember you daily is my plan.
