Speaking of forms, today’s (optional) prompt takes its inspiration from Kiki Petrosino’s loose villanelle, “Nursery.” Try your hand today at your own take on a villanelle, and have the poem end on a question.
Happy writing!
A VILLANELLE – SEEKING LIGHT
Love can be so corrosive, a dark night,
That goes on and on, perhaps forever.
We humans are always seeking light.
The end of the tunnel sort of light,
A light that no love is able to sever.
Why are we so scared of the night?
Why does insomnia hold us so tight?
When will sleep come, whatsoever,
We humans are always seeking light.
Yet into this darkness, I take flight
Like a phoenix rising up, however,
Why are we so scared of the night?
Shadow self should have its own rite,
To claim its duality without a fight.
We humans are always seeking light.
Angels are the harbingers of light,
But the moon is the queen of the night.
We humans are always seeking light.
Why are we so scared of the night?
