#napowrimo #poetry

Today’s challenge asks you to write your own poem in which you use at least three metaphors for a single thing, include an exclamation, ruminate on the definition of a word, and come back in the closing line to the image or idea with which you opened the poem.

Happy writing!

DRAMA

Drama is a never-ending war
full of bombs, missiles, drones,
and the senseless killing
of Gazan and Iranian children.

Drama is a plane's take-off,
the stomach butterflies as
it leaves terra firma; the equal fear
of landing as the brakes scream.

Drama is what some people live for;
to star in their own soap opera.
Oh! Do they never tire of such angst?
Being the star, ruling the roost.

The war drama brings that terrible
military euphemism for civilian
death – collateral damage – why not
tell it like it is? Meaningless deaths.

The drama of war with Trump at
the helm - boasting of annihilation.
In the soap opera of the senility of his
own mind, as he finally loses the plot.
