ARS POETICA – Musings on Poets

The light in my soul inspires me to write.
It stirs in my heart, enflames my night.

It comes in pauses, echoes, and gaps.
It rises in spring like green growing sap.

In summer, it flutters emotion and wit.
As on a hazy, warm night waiting, I sit.

Call for the alchemy, conjure a spell,
invoke the Poetry Goddess, I know well.

Then my muse arrives and we settle in.
We play with words, his yang to my yin.

Sometimes its my emotions we explore.
Or mundane world's deeds we deplore.

We hold them up to righteous ridicule.
Calling them out – the decrepit old fool!

Oh the injustice I see every single day!
The words come as if wrought in clay.

In autumn my mood becomes mellow;
I write in orange, brown and yellow.

Then winter comes with its hibernation,
Slowing down poetry's quixotic creation.

I write because I must scratch this itch.
My pysche's hole that may need a stich.

I exercise my writing muscle day by day.
Write poetry in my own inimitable way!

Poets are bringers of light to the world.
They raise banners – their flag unfurled.

They ask questions that need answers
They create waves – they're advancers.

When all is said and done there we are.
The poets of every country, near and far.

Filling the pauses, gaps and echoes
With our creative, poetic manifestos.
