Ice cream cones on summer days
We bring home sand in our shoes.
Carrying our empty buckets and spades.

Hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades.
We played cards on rain filled days,
Barefoot or with slippers, never shoes.

Those pristine leather school shoes,
We had to polish and clean in spades,
We wore black pumps on weekend days.

We dug the garden with spades, in wellingtons, not shoes, on those finer but muddy days.
