E.M.Carter's The Flowers of Bay C is a heartwrenching story of love and friendship between six women who happen to be on the same ward at the same time.
I was immediately drawn to the cast of characters and how they individually coped with the pain of their lung diseases.
This is a very authentic book about how society treats the sick and how the love that is generated by friendship can pull you through.
There is courage in these women and in the nursing staff that look after them. There is also humour and self-deprecation. The story will stay with you long after you finish it.
