The Comedy Writing Workshop by Anthony Briscoe held at HACK on Yorkshire Street in Oldham on Friday 24th July 2026 was a wonderful experience.
Anthony Briscoe is a poet and stand-up comedian famous for his Dad jokes. He led us through an hilarious ice breaker using juggling balls and shouted out instructions.
We learned that jokes can just exist without being hilariously funny. He encouraged us to construct stories and relax into them. He also taught us a three step process for writing jokes.
It was great to meet lots of like-minded people who wanted to learn about writing comedy. We laughed at each other's jokes and Anthony made the whole workshop experience funny yet insightful.
I would have liked a print out of the whole workshop for further perusal but other than that it was a 5* experience.
A big thank you to Anthony Briscoe and the lovely Sara who is a volunteer for HACK, Oldham and looked after us very well.
