The first in this Medieval Mystery Series Wine of Violence by Priscilla Royal is a promising start to this wonderful series.

Well researched and well written, the story is centred around a new prioress' start at a remote East Anglian 'double house' Monastery/Nunnery. It is 1270, and at only 20 years old, she has been appointed by a grateful king for her family's help in suppressing a rebellion.

Eleanor has to establish her authority quickly, but on the first day, one of the brothers is found dead. Brother Thomas arrives to look into some discrepancies in the accounts, and the 'crowner' is summoned to investigate the murder.

It is an enthralling and entertaining story that delves into people's darkest secrets.
