Sorrow Without End by Priscilla Royal is book 3 in her medieval mystery series.

Unlike the previous two stories, this one starts with a murder reflected in the gradual release of the murderer's heartbreaking story. 

It is 1271, and soldiers are returning from the crusades, battered in mind, and spirit. The queues at Tyndal's monastery hospital are long as soldiers have their wounds tended to.

Brother Thomas is returning after months of absence. Prioress Eleanor must wrestle with her carnal feelings as well as mediate the unrest within  Tyndal caused by internal politics.

As always, the stalwart Sister Anne is by her side, and Ralf the crowner investigates in his rough but  meticulous way.

A well researched historical mystery of the same calibre as the Brother Cadfael novels.
