#book #review
Having recently read Books 4 & 5 in the All Souls Series and while eagerly awaiting book 6, I decided to go back to the beginning and read A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness again.
The author gives us a supposition that there are 4 human species living on our planet, Witches, Vampires, Daemons, and Humans and from there she weaves fact and fiction into an abiding love story between Diana Bishop , a witch and Matthew Clairmount, a vampire. Love and marriage between the species is forbidden.
Deborah Harkness is a wonderful story teller and this book is just the beginning of the trials and tribulations that beset the couple. I listened to this as an audio book and loved the narrator, Jennifer Ikeda as she gave voices to the various characters. I remembered the overall arc of the story but was glad to become re-aquainted with the details.
I loved the descriptions of the Bodleian Library in Oxford and Sarah Bishop's spirit filled house in Madison County in New York State, USA.
The story worked its magic and I was enthralled with it all over again. So I will be delving into books 2 & 3 too.
☆☆☆☆☆Highly recommended reading.
