my two lovely cats
creatures of routine
they teach me zen

they teach me zen
in the haste and noise
a beacon of hope

a beacon of hope
fragile peace talks back on track
for now – ships move on

in the Strait of Hormuz
crude oil prices fall

the world holds its breath
US and Iran

Us and Iran
their memorandum of peace
trembles in place

a newborn baby smiles
it could just be wind

blowing gently through the trees,
dispelling the heat

as climate change makes itself
felt – earthquakes

felt earthquakes
in Venezuela, thousands die
trapped under rubble

a mother and baby are
pulled out alive

pulled out alive
testament to the rescue,
a small miracle

a small miracle
in war-torn Ukraine,
a sunflower grows

a sunflower grows
holding its head to the sun
nature's beauty shines

nature's beauty shines
birdsong and bees' hum is our
company today
