What a joy to return to Deborah Harness' fantastical world of witches, vampires, daemons, and humans.
Having read the first 3 books in the All Souls series, I found myself right back into the world construct where four different species share the planet.
Here, in Book 4, we primarily follow Marcus' story from his early human recollections to his 'making' into a vampire by Matthew de Clermont during the American Civil War. His story continues, and the New Orleons tragedy is revealed in full.
Along the way, we are reunited with Diana Bishop - Clermont, an extraordinary witch, Matthew, and their bright born children. We follow their progress as the struggle with the terrible twos as their witch/vampire children struggle with their natures.
As always, the author's outstanding research and enthralling storytelling shine through.
Read the first 3 books first - followed by this one - you will not be disappointed.
